Back in February, I was one member of a 3-member baby shower planning team. I nominated and appointed myself to serve as the baby shower brand ambassador. Despite the months we had to plan this thing we still ended up pulling it together within the last 10 days before the baby shower. This required some quick thinking on my part for the baby shower “look and feel.” Because I’m a DIYer I have a ton of “vintage” looking picture frames, empty wine bottles, decorative containers, and twine laying around the apartment. I also have a mental map of all nearby dollar stores. This could have been a Michael’s money-suck nightmare, but as luck would have it I … a) live about a 90 minute metro ride from the nearest Michael’s and b) don’t have a car (WHEW). We didn’t know the sex of the baby, and we’re a bunch who favors gender neutrality, so I just went with teal and gold. Here’s what I pulled together:
Then there were the cupcakes. With frosting that matched the color scheme to boot! The mini cupcakes were carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I made a small batch of regular sized chocolate cupcakes with maple buttercream frosting, drizzled maple syrup on top, and topped with chopped bacon. The mother-to-be LOVES bacon, so I had to throw it in there.
