What a perfect opportunity for a gift basket! I didn’t want to make a gift basket of things for the baby, I wanted to make a gift basket for the parents. The baby has got enough stuff (I couldn’t believe how many onesies babies require).
I thought, “Hmmmm … what would a new parent need after having a new baby?” Duh, COFFEE. But how would they drink it? Out of personalized coffee mugs, of course! For more deets on how I made those mugs, see my blog post about it here. I threw in a bag of locally roasted coffee from Zeke’s Coffee Roaster in Baltimore.
What else would they need? Probably something funny. So I picked up a couple of highly recommended not-your-usual-parent-book books. I landed on Go The Fuck to Sleep and The Sh!t No One Tells You: A Guide to Surviving Your Baby’s First Year. Both are available on Amazon, but if you can support a local book store I’d encourage you to do that instead.
I thought it would be nice to include something personalized with the baby’s name for the parents to use, so I decided to embroider a bookmark with her name — Kingsley. I think it’ll go well wedged in the chapter titled “No One Is Loving This as Much as Their Facebook Posts Would Have You Believe.”
Lastly, I grabbed a basket from the thrift store and threw in some super goodies like brownies and cupcakes and fancy champagne. Let’s bring it all together now. What’s in here?
- A wicker basket (thrift store find)
- A personalized embroidered bookmark
- Two books: Go The Fuck to Sleep and The Sh!t No One Tells You: A Guide to Surviving Your Baby’s First Year
- A local bag of ground coffee
- Two personalized coffee mugs
- Cupcakes and brownies
Here it is all put together:
I also showed up with a bag of fresh fruits and vegetables because I had a feeling they weren’t eating as healthy as they normally would. Sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and lack of time will really screw up your healthy eating habits. We’ve got to keep mom and dad in tip top shape, too!
